I feel like the course did a good job of conveying those takeaways between the lectures, papers, and exercises. The projects also did a good job of enforcing some of the concepts.

  • Were there any other particular takeaways for you?

One key takeaway would be the benefit of taking the time to design your program first. It saves time in the end because a well-thought-out plan means that you don’t have to waste time overhauling it after already coding half of it.

This past week I started on the Darwin project with my partner. I also have been working quite a bit on my IOS semester-long project.

Currently, I’m writing a mini-game for my team's IOS app which is a puzzle game using an image. I’m running into a bit of an issue with dividing the image into different pieces. Either my code to crop the pieces is weird, or the UI I’m using to display it is weird.

What did you do this past week?

This past week I finished up the allocator project with my partner. For IOS, the deadline for the first release of our app is this Tuesday so I’ve spent a lot of time working on that. In my research lab, we’ve been adding more led strips to the robot which means I’ve gotten to practice a bit of soldering which was fun.

What did you do this past week?

This past week my partner and I got started on the allocator project. We started before he had explained all of it, so we got slightly confused about how the iterator was supposed to work at first and had to rewrite the methods. For IOS, I’ve figured out how to create our database using Firebase and created the User Profile/editable settings for our app.

This past week in OOP my partner and I finished up the unit and acceptance tests for the voting project. My research group and I also got the code for our experiment mostly running so that was exciting.

This past week in OOP my partner and I got our solution to pass all of the hackerrank tests. We ran into some bugs along the way, but thankfully none that were too heinous. In IOS my team has started on our design document for our app and we’ve made some good progress.

What did you do this past week?

This past week I finished up my IOS homework and put together a project proposal with my team for the app that we will be working on all semester long. I’m excited because it’s ambitious but I really like the idea. Our goal is to create a platform for people to create and share their own “choose your own adventure game.” Right now we’re planning to name it ‘Adventure Architect’.

This past week I finished the Collatz project. I spent a while trying to figure out caching and why my code kept timing out before I realized that I was having integer overflow.

Where did you grow up?

I lived in California until I was 5, Massachusetts until 12 and then I’ve been in Austin since then.

What was your favorite extracurricular activity in high school?

I danced ballet in high school, I liked that it gave me a creative outlet and also the physical challenge it posed.
