What did you do this past week?

This past week my group and I started filtering, sorting and searching for our project. I also started on my project in Modern Web Applications; we are designing a RESTful API in that class as well and using basic SQL and flask. It’s been nice to have some overlap between the concepts in two of my classes, hopefully it means I’m really learning them.

What’s in your way?

I have an Information Retrieval project that I procrastinated starting which is due this evening, so once I’ve finished up this blog, I’m definitely going to need to get a move on that.

What will you do next week?

Next week I will help finish up the phase 3 for my groups IDB project. I will also turn in my statistics homework and IR and MWA projects. My registration time starts this Tuesday so I’m also going to need to decide what classes I want to take for next semester. I’ve looked through the catalogue but I haven’t fully decided yet.

If you read it, what did you think of The Interface Segregation Principle?

I think that the Interface Segregation Principle is important to software engineering in the real world. When object oriented programming becomes complex it’s necessary to choose a design that provides structure to work with yet still maintains flexibility. Reading the papers in this class have given me a better understanding of obejct oriented design and the important principles that guide it.

What was your experience of instance methods, class methods, static methods, regular expressions, and relational algebra? (this question will vary, week to week)

It was interesting to learn about instance, class, and static methods in python; I’ve only learned about them in Java before. Regular expresssions seem to be pretty powerful. However, they are definitely not intuitive or readable to me so they are only fun to try to figure out when there is not a timer ticking down.

What made you happy this week?

I finally after many, many, many applications have recieved an internship offer so I’m very happy about that. As frustrating as the advice was to hear from other people who had gotten internships, I definetely did just need to keep applying.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to go vote Tuesday November 3rd if you have not already!
